The Rural Defensive Patrolling Course (Basic) teaches the fundamentals of team (up to 6 individuals) dismounted tactical patrolling in a woodland environment.  Instruction will take place both in classroom and natural settings.  Competency is built through a series of instructor-led Practical Exercises (PEs), culminating in student led force on force iterations utilizing blank rounds.  Upon completion of the training, students gain a working knowledge of team member roles and responsibilities, a solid foundation in the fundamentals of tactical movement formations/reacting to contact, and enhanced confidence in their ability to work as part of a cohesive defense force.  Topics of training include:

  • Equipment Selection/Gear Set-Up
  • Formations And Order Of Movement
  • Non-Verbal Communication 
  • Linear Danger Areas, Open Danger Areas (Small/Large)
  • Security Halts
  • React To Contact
  • Break Contact
  • Casualty Evacuation Techniques

Prerequisite Courses:  None

Physical Requirements:  This course will be physically demanding at times.  Come able to transition between standing, kneeling, and prone positions.  Additionally, be prepared to run short distances over uneven terrain (several hundred meters).

Equipment Requirements: 

  • Rifle
  • Sling
  • Rifle Magazines (empty; minimum of 3)
  • Chest Rig or Bandoleer or Belt Rig 

**Equipment must facilitate you carrying your magazines on your body**

  • Water Source
  • Notebook
  • Pens/pencils
  • Eye protection (ballistic)
  • Ear protection
  • Shooting gloves
  • Cold weather clothing
  • Wet weather clothing
  • Lunch (both days)

Optional Equipment:

  • Individual First Aid Kit (carried on your body)

    Note:  Include tourniquets x2, QuikClot Combat Gauze x1, Emergency Bandage (pressure dressing) x1, Chest Seal x1, Medical Tape x1 roll, Non-latex Gloves x1 pair, Sharpie Marker x1, EMS Shears x1
  • Pistol (carried on your body)
  • Small Assault Pack (subdued colors preferred)
  • Extra Rifle magazines (empty, carried in pack)
  • Extra Pistol magazines (empty, carried in pack)
  • Additional Medical supplies (carried in pack)
  • Additional water source (Camelbak, Nalgene, canteen)
  • Rifle cleaning kit (carried in pack)
  • High Energy Food Source (Clif Bar, Peanut Butter Packets, PowerGel

 

This is a non-ballistic class

No live ammo will be permitted to be carried during the class.  All magazines with live ammunition must be left in your personal vehicle.  It is your responsibility to check all magazines and equipment to ensure compliance.  Buddy and instructor checks will occur prior to the start of each training day and each training iteration.
